CONTEST RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

The Rural American Idol Contest is designed for competition among solo or duet AMATEUR vocal entertainers at various age group levels.

The Rural American Idol Contest is in three divisions based on age groupings:
Division I - Through 12 years of age
Division II - 13 through 25 years of age
Division III - 26 years old and up

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A non-refundable fee of $25 is required to be paid and submitted with this entry form. Make check or money order to: People Organizing Ideal Neighborhoods Today, Inc.
  2. Submit a short personal bio to include highlights of your accomplishments in your performances
  3. Entry form, entry fee, bio and song selection for performance must be mailed or submitted on or before two (2) weeks before the desired date of audition performance. (Mail to P.O. Box 123, Point, Texas 75472 Attention: Program Coordinator).
  4. Contestant must pay for their own expenses, i.e. transportation to and from the performance venue, meals and lodging.
  5. No personal motion videos or audio recorders will be allowed at the Cotton Pickin' Theatre during the entire production.

QUALIFYING PROCESS / AUDITION:

    1. An audition performance is required (no exception) at a regularly scheduled show of the Rural American Music Revue presented by the P.O.I.N.T. organization.
    2. During the qualifying (audition) performance, one song will be rendered with his/her own music backup (CD Tracks, keyboard, guitar, etc). No live "backup band" vocals are allowed.
    3. A P.O.I.N.T. panel and the audience will make the selection of participants qualified to enter the contest. Tally of scores from the panel account for 70%. Total votes from the audience account for 30%.
    4. Anyone who garners total points of 60% or more will be qualified for the competition.
    5. P.O.I.N.T. reserves the sole right to assign a qualified contestant to a different round for competition in case of an overflow of contestants during a specific period.
    6. No member of the P.O.I.N.T. organization, or any member of the Shindig Band or any family relations, either by birth or marriage, can be qualified to enter the Rural American Idol Contest.
    7. Those scheduled for the audition performance MUST be at the Cotton Pickin' Theatre for practice time 4:30 p.m. to include sound and music back-up test.
    8. Proper attire is recommended.
    9. Showtime starts at 7:30 p.m.

CONTEST PERFORMANCE:

  1. Each qualified contestant will perform, with a live band, the song rendered during the audition show. No prerecorded music is permitted.
  2. If an original song(s) will be performed, the contestant must submit acceptable documentation to prove ownership of his/her music. It shall include either a certificate of copyright, proof of song registration with BMI, ASCAP, etc., or a notarized copy of the application applying for the copyright with a signed statement by the contestant as to its status. The music chart for this original song must be submitted immediately after the audition performance. A Nashville numbered music charting of the song is recommended
  3. Each contestant will perform a maximum of four minutes.
  4. No additional back-up will be allowed, other than that provided by P.O.I.N.T.
  5. All performances must be done in good taste: no music or lyrics that P.O.I.N.T. considers to be offensive may be performed.
  6. If unable to perform on the scheduled audition performance date, call Minda Painter at (903) 598-3809 or email point@msn.com. Two weeks prior notice is required so you can be rebooked, otherwise, your entry is cancelled.
  7. Scheduled contestants MUST be at the Cotton Pickin' Theatre for practice time with the band at 4:00 p.m. Rehearsal time, with the band, for any performer is limited no more than 15 minutes.
  8. Contestants are matched to compete within their age grouping.
  9. Proper attire is recommended. Dress like a STAR!

    Ladies: Nice Dresses, Sparkles, Pant Suits, etc. NO SHORT, SHORT SKIRTS, OR ULTRA TIGHT PANTS, NO MIDRIFFS SHOWING. (Please wear the proper undergarments. With bright lights on stage, people will be able to see through your clothes if you do not dress appropriately).
    Men: a Jacket & Tie, Pressed Jeans and Shirt, are all appropriate.

  10. The production of the Rural American Idol Contest will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. bination of scores. Audience votes will account for 30% of the score and the judges' points will account for 70% of the total score. Each member of the audience with a ballot will cast their one vote for a favored contestant in each division.

VOTING AND JUDGING:

  1. Audience Voting:
    1. The perforated section of the Theater Gate Ticket will be collected from each one in exchange for a ballot. The data required on the ballot must be fully filled out to be a valid vote.
    2. The ballot will contain a list of the contestants from each division.
    3. Audience must cast their ballots after the last contestant in each division. Announcement for the collection of the ballots by the designated members of P.O.I.N.T. will be announced by the emcee. After the last call announcement for the ballots by the emcee, any remaining unsubmitted ballots will be nullified.
    4. A selection of only one contestant for each division will be marked on the ballot; otherwise, the ballot is nullified.
    5. The ballots will be collected and counted only by P.O.I.N.T. appointed committee members.
  1. Judging Criteria:

           Performances will be awarded 20 points in each of the following  categories:  

  1. Stage Presence/Charisma
  2. Showmanship
  3. Marketability
  4. Vocal/Instrumental ability
  5. Overall Talent

          Maximum score on each of the above categories is 20%; perfect score by a judge to a contestant is 100%

  1. In the event of a tie, the first tie-breaker shall be the highest number of points given in Overall Talent category. The second tie-breaker shall be the highest number of points awarded in the Stage Presence/Charisma category. The third tie-breaker shall be by a secret vote of the judges based on overall performance style and impact.
